"Now is the time to get into the Adventure and Experience the Adirondack's"

4th Year Trekking Program

This program provides a five day and four night experience in the northern Adirondack Park canoeing area.  This Trek starts near the site of one of the Adirondacks most famous 19th-Century resort hotels (Paul Smith's).  You will travel over five major lakes and a series of small ponds connected by streams and carries.  Brook trout up to several pounds have been caught here, and other wildlife abounds.  This is where trekkers have often spotted bald eagles and where you are most likely to see moose.  Tent sites and lean-tos at beaches and islands provide plenty of spectacular mountain and lake views.  You may even get a chance to operate a lock to change from one river level to another.  This is one of the single best paddles in the Adirondack's.

Each Scout must be at least a fourth year camper, or at least fourteen years old, have attended a BSA resident camp as a camper, and be at least a first class scout.

Special for this Trek, each participant will have the option to stay in a hammock.  If you have not hammock camped this is your chance.  If you have a hammock, bring it.

Two adults will be with the crew.  One is a staff member of Camp Wakpominee and will be National Camp School trained, and the other will be a volunteer Troop Leader.

The cost of the program is the same as a week at Camp Wakpominee.  You can sign up to attend the week your Troop is coming, or you could come another week that works best for you.

Crews will be kept to a maximum of six scouts each week, and they will be selected on a "first come, first go" process.

We are planning on the following timeline:

  • Sunday- Normal Check-In
  • Monday to Friday- Canoe Trekking in the Adirondack's
  • Saturday- Return home with your Troop

If you have questions please feel free to contact Julie VanAmburgh.
